Canton Township Busy With Winter

Wednesday March 3, 2010 The Canton Township Board of Supervisors held its March meeting with Chairman Gary Ferguson and Supervisors Jasper Smith and Mark McMurray present along with Road Foreman Bob Petrowski.

The minutes and bills lists were approved. General liability and property pool insurance premiums totaling $6,869.29 were received.

Several pieces of equipment have needed repairs recently. A pin broke on the loader, resulting in some damage to the bucket arm. The pick-up truck needed some repairs and the base plate on a snow plow was damaged. Some of the electronics on the 2007 Volvo truck malfunctioned and had to be towed to the garage for repairs.

The township road crew spent six hours clearing snow in Canton Borough, using the loader and truck. The Borough will be billed for this work plus labor costs.

The crew also was busy on township roads during the storm, covering over 500 miles between 2 am on Thursday until Sunday morning.

Fortuna will be contacted about road restoration work on Newell and Alba Mountain Roads.

The supervisors are making plans to grind the surface of Brague Road this summer, and add stone to the base.

The Township Solicitor has filed a complaint against a property in Grover. The owner has failed to take action to correct junk violations.
