It's time to start getting ready for the 2010 Little League season and it all starts with getting your players signed up. The deadline for sign ups is March 1 by 6:00 pm. This deadline allows the League Board of directors to put together teams and find coaches early enough to be able to schedule games with neighboring Leagues.
Registration forms will be sent home from school with students. These forms may be filled in and sent with payment to the address on the form. Parents watch for this form, it is very important to get them filled out and sent in before the deadline.
There will be in person sign ups On Feb. 6 and Feb. 27 at the fireman’s building from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. These will be for all players in Canton Area Little League which includes Canton, Leroy, Ogdensburg, and Ralston. Any player who lives inside the Canton Area School District is eligible to play in the Canton Area Little League.
The League will run a newspaper ad in the Canton Sentinel which will contain a registration form. This form may also be mailed in with payment.
The Board of Directors will meet on the evening of March 1st to sort out players who have registered. At this time they will put together as many teams has they can with the players they have. The goal will be to make up teams of at least 12 players without having to make the teams to much bigger than that. Teams may have as many as 16 players.
If there are not enough players to fill any teams, registration will be held open for those teams and those teams only. These spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis. If you miss the deadline there is no guarantee your player will have a team to play on. The Boards goal and responsibility is to provide as many opportunities to play as possible but the responsibility for getting signed up is completely up to the parents.
So get your hands on a registration form, make copies if you need to and get them set in.
